A MESSAGE FROM FLOYD PATERSON

Thank you to all the residents of Denton North East who voted for me yesterday.

While I am disappointed not to have won, I take heart from the warmth of support I received during the election.

However, the plain truth is simple, we faced a very determined Labour team who could call upon resources that the Conservatives cannot yet muster in Tameside, although that is changing by the day with our increasing membership.

Nonetheless, my campaign team worked their socks off for me, and my wholehearted thanks goes to each and every one of them.

In total we delivered over 12,000 leaflets in just three weeks, and knocked on countless doors during the process. It was a magnificent effort, and proved that the Conservatives are a focussed and unified team – the only credible alternative to Labour in Denton and Tameside. 

Unfortunately, in a by-election, situation Labour were able to swamp the ward and residents lost count of the number of Labour leaflets they received. In the end, Labour were able to ‘get out their vote’.

Being new to politics it was certainly an enlightening experience to me! One that I want to repeat as soon as possible!

I congratulate Denise Ward on her victory. While I had my criticism of her campaign, which is outlined elsewhere on this website, I wish her the very best of luck as a councillor, and look forward to scrutinising her work during her term of office.

All that is left for me to say is that this may have been my first attempt to work on behalf of the people of Denton, but it certainly won’t be may last!

TODAY IS THE DAY.

After an intensive by-election campaign, the day of polling has arrived.

Apart from the rain, I have enjoyed the experience tremendously! I have met some wonderful people, walked miles and miles and miles of Denton streets, and helped a few people along the way.

For every resident I have met, I would like to thank them for their support, warmth and encouragement.

During the campaign I have done my utmost to present a positive and passionate alternative to the tired ways of Labour. As you will see from this blog, I have presented my arguments and told you how they can be resolved. I have highlighted Labour failings and outlined my proposals. My aim has been to inform and enlighten.

It has only been in the last week of the campaign that I have felt the need to respond to Labour’s negative and deceitful campaign.

You would think, that after the scandals that have engulfed the Labour Government in recent months, and the death of a gentleman like Martin Wareing – whose passing prompted the by-election – that the Labour powers-that-be would have sat down and decided to run a campaign based on hope and optimism.

Sadly not.

It was campaign that had its foundation in the gutter and its facts in fairy land.

For instance, whilst Labour were claiming that the Conservatives would close down children centres because “they don’t use them”, my Conservative colleague, Hyde councillor Ruth Welsh, was full of praise for the one she had used regularly near her parent’s home in Newton.

Then there were the “10 per cent” cuts lies, and the suggestion that David Cameron would single-handedly close down local community centres such as Denton Festival Hall and Duke Street Youth Centre.

Utter garbage! When did David Cameron suddenly become leader of Tameside Council?!

Furthermore, there was, of course, no mention of Gordon Brown’s projected 13 per cent CUT to public spending, or his laughable boast of a “zero per cent rise” in total Government spending were Labour to win the next General Election.

And then there was the ‘Tories split/website’ story that took up half the back page of one of Labour’s leaflets. A work of pure fiction, we had a good laugh about that one in Manchester Road Conservative Club!

If only Labour had taken the trouble to research their fairy tale they would have known that the supposedly aggrieved former Conservative candidate – Georgina Greenwood – had actually nominated my candidature, and my alleged opponent for the Conservative candidature – Stacey Knighton – had been out almost every day delivering leaflets on my behalf. There was no Conservative split – apart from in the fevered imagination of Labour-friendly bloggers - just a concerted campaign to get our message out to voters.

Neither were there many policies offered by Labour.

Indeed, one of their last leaflets – a glossy A3 leaflet – said very little. The best it could muster was four reasons for voting Labour. Only four, and one of which was the fact that their candidate lived locally. Don’t all Denton residents live local to Denton? There was nothing about local Labour policy or the policies of their Government.

So now it is D-Day, and we shall see which way the voters of Denton North East have swung. Such is the arrogance of Labour that they believe they are going to win and publicly said so days ago on their Denton North East by-election blog.

Now is the opportunity to prove them wrong!

For you have a choice: you can vote:

1. For the continuation of the insipid policies of Gordon Brown’s Labour;
2. To waste your vote on one of the minority parties – none of which have ever stood in Denton North East before nor have any chance of winning; or,
3. FOR ME, FLOYD PATERSON, THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO CAN END LABOUR’S MONOPOLY IN DENTON AND OFFER A MORE OPTIMISTIC FUTURE FOR OUR GREAT TOWN. 

Once again, I thank the people of Denton North East for all their support, and no matter the outcome this evening I look forward to seeing them out and about around Denton in the future.

In the meantime, THERE IS JUST A HANDFUL OF VOTES BETWEEN ME AND LABOUR, so please help me, Floyd Paterson, deliver a knockout blow to Labour in Denton North East today!

…& DON’T BELIEVE THE LABOUR LIES IN DENTON NORTH EAST!

The Conservatives’ Norwich North By-Election defeat of Labour was a victory for decency and honesty, following a gutter-level campaign by Labour. 

Have Labour not learnt anything from the last few tragic months for British politics?

Not a chance!

For with public opinion of politicians at an all-time low, Labour are pulling the same stunt in Denton North East, by building an election campaign upon a pack of LIES .

Their deeds of DECEIT include the BIZZARE claim that the Conservatives would close children centres because “they don’t use them”.

However, Tameside Conservative councillor Ruth Welsh said, “As a mother of two young children I found my local children’s centre invaluable, particularly for baby massage and Rhyme Time. It is patently clear that the Labour candidate doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

Other Labour fantasies include, the notion that the Conservatives will close Denton Festival Hall and Duke Street Youth Centre, sack Patrollers and slash nursery places.

ALL OF IT – LIES! 

Floyd Paterson said, “In the absence of any policies, Labour have nothing to offer but lies. Whether it has been about children’s centres, over 60s bus passes, or bizarrely, even the Tameside Conservative website, what they have said has been utter RUBBISH. In simple terms, desperate Labour cannot be trusted to tell the truth because they have nothing left to offer.

“Where are their policies? Nowhere to be seen!

“They urge voters to ask me: ‘Why should I vote Tory when the damage is clear?’ So I simply say this: Vote Conservative on Thursday because the damage has already been done – by Labour in Denton and Westminster over the last decade. Damage that their lies cannot hide.” 

LABOUR’S SHAMBOLIC GOVERNMENT HAS BROUGHT BRITAIN TO THE VERGE OF BANKRUPTCY – MEANING GRANDIOSE VISIONS FOR THE FORMER OLDHAM BATTERIES’ SITE NOW LIE IN RUINS.

DESPERATE LABOUR are scrambling to avoid defeat next Thursday by claiming that, “…this by-election is not about what happens in Downing Street, it’s about what happens down your street.”

Yet, after 12 years of an INEPT Labour Government, £billions of taxpayers’ money wasted, £billions more borrowed that will take a generation to pay back, and DICTATORIAL and bureaucratic legislation, residents ‘down your street’ now have:

1) A 111% INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF UNEMPLOYED IN DENTON NORTH EAST!

Since May 2008 the number of Denton North East residents claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance has MORE THAN DOUBLED – all thanks to Labour, Gordon Brown and their catastrophic economic policies.

2) THE WEEKLY BLACK BIN COLLECTION SCRAPPED!

Despite another hike in your Council Tax, Labour SCRAPPED your weekly black bin collection. You pay the council tax, you deserve the service! why should you pay more for less?

3) AN 18% COLLAPSE IN THE PRICE OF HOUSES!

Tameside has experienced one of the country’s worst housing price COLLAPSES in the country — a staggering 18 per cent in the last year – meaning many hard-working residents are struggling in negative equity, all thanks to Labour’s ‘boom and boom’ economic dream that was built on a sea of credit.

4) EDUCATION SPENDING TO BE CUT BY £100m!

Next year, education spending will be CUT for the first time in more than two decades, according to Treasury figures. Which schools in Denton will be affected?

5) DENTON ROAD POST OFFICE & DENTON MARKET CLOSED!

Thanks to inept Labour policy both have been LOST in the name of ‘progress’.

Labour’s calamitous Government and handling of local services has had a massive impact on local people, while their blatant lies have brought the Denton North East By-Election down to the level of the gutter.

THE TAMESIDE LABOUR WEBSITE & THE LINKS TO THE WEBSITES SELLING ‘REPLICA’ ROLEX WATCHES & BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS

For all their fake Rolex and steroid needs, residents need not apparently go any further than Tameside Labour.

That is what astonished web surfers will find if they log onto the official website of Tameside Labour.

The website has links to websites selling ‘replica rolex’ and ‘bodybuilding supplements’.

Ironically, the links are found at the bottom the home page under a banner entitled “The Work Goes On”.

The website, which has been in existence since 2003 is promoted by Ashton Hurst Labour councillor, Alan Whitehead “on behalf of the Tameside Labour Party”.

And on the website, Labour Leader, Cllr.Roy Oldham boasts, “This site has been put together to highlight not only our manifesto pledges but also to show the progress we are making towards delivering these pledges.”

Floyd Paterson, the Conservative candidate for Denton North East, said, “We know New Labour are a fake party on its last legs, but even so I was astounded to look at the official Tameside Labour website and find them promoting the sale of ‘replica’ watches and steroids.

“It is believed that the use of steroids in young people has more than doubled in the last five years, with as many as 250,000 people now taking them regularly.”

“Is it official Labour policy to promote the sale of these goods? Are they receiving an income from these links? And, is this the legacy Labour wants for Tameside; a generation of people hooked on steroids wearing fake goods?”

Former Liberal Democrat MEP, Saj Karim is backing Floyd Paterson in Denton North East.

Saj defected from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives in 2007.

Saj said, “It is David Cameron and the Conservatives who are now setting the political agenda in Britain. Only the Conservatives are capable of putting right Labour’s continued failure.

“The Conservative Party is the only Party that can restore people’s faith in British Politics. The campaigns which your local Conservatives are fighting for are what the local community really needs; such as saving post offices and small businesses. Floyd Patterson is a top class candidate who can and will deliver for your local area.”

Floyd Paterson said, “I welcome Saj’s warm words of support. The Liberal Democrats have failed to put forward a candidate for the Denton North East By-Election, which means that there are approximately 450 Lib Dem voters who may be unsure how to cast their vote.

“I would urge them to vote Conservative. At the last Denton North East election the combined Conservative/Lib Dem vote was more than Labour’s. Together we can beat Labour next Thursday and deliver real change to Denton.”

LABOUR SCORE LOW MARKS FOR THEIR ELECTORAL MATHEMATICS

Despite Labour claiming that the ‘majority’ of local people ‘accept’ them, approximately 87 per cent of voters did NOT vote Labour in Denton North East at the last election in May 2008! 

Floyd Paterson said, “Labour are suggesting to residents that they are popular, but it is complete rubbish. From an electorate of approximately 8,500 just over 1,100 voters supported Labour at the last local elections in May 2008.

“In comprison 1,367 voted for other parties – including 912 for the Conservatives. In the same instance, a staggering 6,000 residents did not vote.”

Floyd concluded, “It is neck-and-neck in Denton North East, regardless of what Labour say. So please vote. Vote for change and help me, Floyd Paterson, deliver the knockout blow to Labour next Thursday!”

Denton’s new ‘civic square’ is in danger of becoming the most expensive skateboard park in the country.

As the YouTube videos above show, the square is being used regularly by young skaterboarders trying out their skills on the marble seating.

While their skills are comendable, it is not what the seating was intended for, and marks on the marble are clearly visible from the damage caused.

Floyd Paterson said, “When Labour gave up on the market they had grand visions for a new civic square. Now, those plans are being ruined because Labour do not have enough wherewithal to provide enough facilities for our young people, whilst at the same time they are doing little to disuade skateboarders from using the civic square.

“Something needs to be done, to ensure that the civic square does not become nothing more than an expensive skateboard park, so that residents of all ages can enjoy the square.”
